Shut Out!!!

Well, the Bills were shut out today which ended their playoff hope. This season is going to end with the same pattern as we have seen before. A late playoff push followed by a couple loses to finish the year with. I feel our record is much better than we are. We did not beat a winning team all year. That does not say playoffs. But the part that killed me the most this afternoon was the dump pass that our playoff hopes died with, at least take your shot!!! Thank goodness Steve isn't going to be calling the plays next year. On a light note the sabres have won 3-4 and are starting to get things rolling again.

Beaver Creek Rainbow!!!!

Matt and I decided to head west to Beaver Creek this past weekend in the pursuit of larger trout. We arrive to find ourselves freezing and barely able to tie on our flies. After a struggle to get ourselves moving we scouted out the creek, and by this I mean spook every trout we saw. However, we did see a couple of fish that we bigger than anything we had seen before in the state, which warmed us right up. The trout in this stream seem to blend perfectly with the green water and even when we saw a fish it always seemed to disappear without even moving more than 6 inches. After a few hours of fishless hiking we decided to head back to the most promising area we had come across. A few minutes later I had hooked into my best inland fish to date. The only thing Matt had to say after seeing the fish was "What tippet do you have on there?" Well Matt netting the bow for me saving my from a 5x heartbreak. Oh the pleasures of Limestone!!!

November 17th Outting

Mr. Loose was nice enough to join me on the Gunpowder for an excellent morning of fishing. He had never fished the stream before so I tried to show him some of the different water that it has to offer. The creek was still very low so it made fishing up around the damn a little difficult. We had better luck down by the boulders and in the pocket water. Once again the orange copper john about size 16 was the ticket bringing fish from almost every pool. It is amazing how that fly works in the pocket water but not the runs above them. Overall good day with tight lines and good company, I hope we can go explore some PA streams together during the course of the winter.

Smallmouths and Grand Slams!!!

Matt and I hit up the Gunpowder today fishing the section from Falls Rd up to the damn. It was a day of firsts....our first smallmouth and brook trout from the GP. Pretty cool stuff...who know where they came from. The brookie led to my first ever grand slam!!! Matt pulled a bronzeback out of the plunge pool after letting the fish snag him up. Matty wasn't going to have it and dove in the water after him and was reward for his efforts. I also got hooked up with a couple of browns with a sinking leader that had a copper John at the end of it. However, the highlight of the day was when Matt hooked up with a huge sunfish. After a long fight he landed the pig and set it aside for the nights dinner. After a day of fishing we headed back up to the car only to find a couple of blonds suiting up!!! This was even more of a surprise than what we found at the end of our lines today, and got us much more excited. Maybe we will see them again, the GP is a popular stream.....
